Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has criticised what he believes to be a UK’s “anti-maths mindset”, as the country is one of the least numerate ones of the developed world, with over 8 million adults lacking basic numeracy skills.

He also pledged to strengthen maths teaching and to appoint an expert group to examine the core maths content taught and consider whether a new maths qualification is necessary.
