Labour Party Chair Anneliese Dodds says Lee Anderson's comments were 'unambiguously racist'

Labour Party Chair Anneliese Dodds has told Sky News that Ashfield MP Lee Anderson's comments were "unambiguously racist, Islamophobic, divisive, and damaging". She went on to say that the prime minister is "too weak to deal with that problem".

Mr Anderson was suspended for saying he believed "Islamists" had "got control" of Sadiq Khan, the London mayor.

Speaking to Sky's Kay Burley, Ms Dodds said Rishi Sunak should consider removing the whip from ex-PM Liz Truss after a series of controversial appearances in the last few days.

Mr Anderson has said he fully accepts there was "no option" but to suspend the whip, adding that he "will continue to support the government's efforts to call out extremism in all its forms, be that antisemitism or Islamophobia".
