CIA, Israel & Qatar talk Gaza war ceasefire, Hamas hostage release

The CIA director is overseas for talks with Israeli and Qatari officials as they work toward a possible new ceasefire in Gaza and the release of more hostages taken by Hamas on Oct. 7.

The talks come as U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin visited Israel and discussed with the Israeli military leaders about scaling back major combat operations.

Some of Israel's closest allies -- France, the U.K. and Germany -- have joined global calls for a ceasefire or truce in the fighting.

The United Nations Security Council met Tuesday to discuss a legally-binding resolution that would call for a ceasefire. The U.S. vetoed a similar resolution earlier this month.
