Flights were grounded and passengers told to stay in Fort Lauderdale airport after parts of Florida were drenched by 25 inches of rain.

Traveller Ben Aird tweeted that he was stuck in the airport for 10 hours, and filmed waves on the runway as vehicles travelled along the Tarmac.

Authorities have declared a state of emergency.
