President Assad returns to Arab League summit after suspension

The Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, has addressed the Arab League summit for the first time since his country was suspended in 2011.

He hailed the meeting as a "historic opportunity" to address issues across the Middle East without interference from outsiders.

But his re-introduction to the group has angered human rights groups, who point to Mr Assad's record during the years of civil war in Syria.
