Shadow work and pensions secretary Jonathan Ashworth has discussed the rising unemployment rate, which stood at 3.8% in February, and pointed to low growth, NHS issues, and wage collapse as key contributing factors.

Mr Ashworth also criticised new voter ID rules that permit older citizens to use rail passes as identification, but not younger people.

The government claims the difference is necessary as older people require more identification to obtain these passes.
