The latest figures showed that net migration hit a record-breaking 745,000 in 2022 - revised up from 606,000, which was then deemed a record high.

The figure for the year to June 2023 was 672,000 people, and it has provoked fury on the Tory backbenches.

With the Conservative Party having promised to bring legal migration right down, we asked Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride if the high numbers are the fault of the government.
