Israel's former foreign minister, Tzipi Livni, has told Sky News the military operation in Gaza is "an invasion".

She told Trevor Phillips that rescuing more than 200 hostages held in Gaza by Hamas would be difficult.

Israel went into Gaza on Friday night in retaliation to Hamas's 7 October attack on Israel.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says more than 8,000 people have been killed since the start of the conflict. At least 1,400 people were killed in Hamas's attack on Israel on 7 October, officials there have said.
