The United Nations has mobilised a significant humanitarian response, saying it was "alarmed by the scale" of an Israeli military incursion into the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli Defence Force said it was striking at what it called "terrorist infrastructure".

The Palestinian Prime Minister has condemned it as an "invasion".
