Levelling up minister Rachel Maclean has refused to say whether armed police should be allowed to down their weapons.

Scores of Metropolitan Police officers in London have handed in permits that allow them to carry weapons after a colleague was charged with Chris Kaba's murder.

The Ministry of Defence is offering soldiers to the Met.

Ms Maclean also refused to say whether soldiers should be given greater immunity from prosecution than armed police officers.
