Four-time world champions the USA have been eliminated from the Women's World Cup in dramatic fashion, after losing on penalties to Sweden.

It was unclear whether the ball had gone all the way over in what was the game's pivotal moment. After a nervous 30 seconds of checks from referee Stephanie Frappart, the ball was shown to be over the line by the barest of margins, with mere millimetres seeing Sweden through.
