A Cyprus court is expected to rule whether David Hunter, a British pensioner who killed his terminally ill wife, is guilty of premeditated murder.

Janice Hunter, who was 74 and had cancer, died in December 2021 at the couples home, near Paphos.

Mr. Hunter, 75, has admitted suffocating his wife but said it was assisted suicide and denies murder. A plea deal on a lesser charge of manslaughter was thrown out in December.

Cyprus currently does not have laws permitting assisted dying but the island's parliament is due to discuss euthanasia under medical supervision after its summer recess.
