The US has returned to the moon after an absence of more than 50 years.

The private company Intuitive Machines landed its Odysseus robot near the lunar south pole in what NASA hailed as a "giant leap forward for all of humanity".

The last US craft to land on the moon was part of the Apollo programme in 1972.
