Ukraine war: Zelenskyy moves to replace defence minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said tonight he would ask parliament this week to dismiss Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov and to replace him with Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine's main privatisation fund.

Mr Reznikov, who was appointed defence minister in November 2021, played a pivotal role in securing substantial Western military aid to support the war effort. But he has faced persistent allegations of corruption within his ministry, which he has characterised as baseless smears.
