Silvio Berlusconi, the former Italian prime minister, is in intensive care in a Milan hospital.

The four-time premier, who is 86, has suffered repeated bouts of ill-health in recent years.

Sky News understands that he's being treated for a lung problem and has had a CT scan.

His spokesman confirmed his admission, saying that he "routinely receives care".
