Deputy chairman of the Conservative Party, James Daly, said his predecessor's defection to Reform UK, after being suspended by the Tories over his comments about Sadiq Khan, made him feel "really sad".

He told Sophy Ridge: "He's a friend of mine, I've known him a long time, we've been through a lot together."
