Carl Weathers, the actor famous for playing Apollo Creed in the Rocky films, has died aged 76.

The actor, who also starred in Predator alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and most recently the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian, died "peacefully in his sleep" yesterday.

In a statement, his family said: "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life.

"Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognised worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend."
