Speaking to Sky News, the Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said Rishi Sunak should never have appointed Mr Raab in the first place and questioned why he did not sack the minister.

Asked about Mr Raab's resignation letter, Sir Keir said: "I do not know why Dominic Raab thinks that in the middle of a cost of living crisis anybody wants to hear about his whining about having to resign."
