In Bethlehem's Manger Square, shops are mostly closed. The church of the nativity is quiet, and the excitement and joy of Christmas is absent.

This year, out of protest of the Israeli actions in Gaza and in solidarity with Palestinians, there will be no Christmas celebrations in Bethlehem for the first time in living memory.
