Mark Regev, senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, says "it is clear that Hamas is responsible" for the truce with Israel coming to an end.

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Regev claimed Israel was "prepared to see the continuation of the ceasefire" but Hamas "opened fire" and "started shooting rockets" at around 5.30am.

A senior Hamas spokesperson previously claimed the Israeli side wanted the fighting to resume after the seven-day pause.
