The humanitarian organisation Palestine Red Crescent Society has issued a plea to the world over the Israeli government's demand to evacuate Gaza City.

The Israeli military has urged all people in the city to leave their homes "for their own safety", in a strong suggestion it is set to begin a ground assault.
