Sir Mark Lyall Grant, former UK national security adviser has said Israel "cannot achieve their military objective of destroying Hamas without some form of ground operations" and "I don't think any Western countries are trying to dissuade Israel from doing that."

Sir Mark said the UK could "potentially play a role once diplomacy comes back" and could play a part in "longer-term solutions".
