The Hamas attack on Israel has prompted an intense military retaliation with dozens of Israeli warplanes striking in Gaza.

More than 400 Palestinians are reported to have been killed and more than 2,000 have been injured.

Meanwhile, a British man who was serving in the Israeli army was killed in an attack by Hamas militants.
