Labour's Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves - who is hoping to be in charge of Britain's finances after the next election, has blamed the rate hikes squarely on the government.

Ms Reeves said: "This latest rise in interest rates will be incredibly worrying for households across Britain already struggling to make ends meet".
