On November 11, 2000, ground was broken for the National World War II Memorial on Washington D.C.'s National Mall. President Clinton delivered remarks, saying to veterans of the war, "Because of you, my generation and those who have followed live in a time of unequaled peace and prosperity. We are the children of your sacrifice, and we thank you forever."
