English coast as Met Office issues weather warnings ahead of Storm Ciaran

This a live shot of Lyme Regis, Dorchester (left) and Dawlish, Devon (right).

The second named storm in two weeks, Storm Ciaran, is set to make landfall today, with a red weather warning in place for the Channel Islands. Meteorologists have warned the slow-moving storm will bring "wind damage" and "a lot of rain".

Most storms can be tracked as they make their way across the Atlantic or from the continent. But Ciaran hasn't finished developing - and until it does, it's very hard to pinpoint the areas that will be worst affected and also the strength of the winds.
