Barely 24 hours after the International Energy Agency (IEA) reiterated in a new piece of analysis that there was no need for new oil or gas projects if the world is to get to net zero, Britain has approved the biggest new oilfield in more than a decade.

The UK's largest untapped oil and gas field has been given the green light by the regulator, despite warnings about the climate damage of new fossil fuel projects.

Sky's Ed Conway has analysed whether new oil and gas fields will increase the UK's energy security or will make commitments to net zero difficult to reach.
