An eight-year-old is the sole survivor of a bus crash in South Africa which killed 45 people.

The victims were all travelling for a popular Easter pilgrimage when the bus lost control over a mountain pass and crashed through the barrier. The bus plunged 50 metres into a ravine, bursting into flames as it hit the ground.

The eight-year-old girl that survived is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the incident.
