A man is dead after being mauled by a large, adult, male black bear in a community south of Prescott, Arizona.
Officials said the 66-year-old man who was killed by the bear was on his property in Groom Creek when the “unprovoked attack” occurred.
Yavapai County Sheriff David Rhodes said he’s never seen anything like this in his life, calling the attack “exceedingly rare.”
The bear is also dead. A neighbor shot and killed the bear while it was, “in the process of consuming” the victim.
