The rare disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), causes a patient to lose control of their muscles, becoming unable to breathe on their own and most likely killing them within five years.

Sky's Helen-Ann Smith visits ALS patients in China who pay around 40% of healthcare costs for rare diseases, leaving families in financial ruin.
