The US military is to establish a temporary port on the Gaza coast to increase the flow of humanitarian aid to the territory, Joe Biden is to announce.

The operation is expected to take a number of weeks to plan and execute, and US officials have said it will not require American troops to be on the ground.

The president is set to formally announce the emergency mission at his annual State of the Union address in Washington.
