Shadow Culture Secretary Lucy Powell said Richard Sharp has brought "reputational damage" to the BBC and "undermined its independence".

She said he "should have been fired weeks ago" and went on to call the appointments of friends to public positions by Conservative Prime Ministers "cronyism and sleaze at its worst."
