Sustainability export Professor Mike Berners-Lee explains how refining waste cooking oil cannot be a real solution to carbon neutral flying.

Transforming all of the world's cooking oil into aviation fuel with grown would only power
2-3% of global flights.

Using plant-based crops to create fuel is also problematic - flights for all of the EU made in such a way would need a land area twice the size of the UK and Ireland, the professor said.
