Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has acknowledged that it "will take time to get taxes down", but insisted that the decision to put up taxes last year was "the right thing".

Mr Hunt stressed he had "made steps" to grow the economy, adding: "The message of this budget is don't bet against Britain because our economy has exceeded all expectations".
