An Australian Senate committee has recommended extending a ban on TikTok to also include popular Chinese social media platform WeChat, arguing that it could pose a risk to democracy through disinformation campaigns.

Australian Senator James Paterson said the recommendations would make Australia less of a target for foreign interference risks that the nation faced.
