US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, concludes his visit to China with a news conference, after meeting with president Xi Jinping.

It is the first visit to China by a US secretary of state in five years.

Tensions between the US and China have sparked fears they could eventually be drawn into conflict over Taiwan. They are also at odds over issues ranging from trade, US efforts to hold back China's semiconductor industry, and the ruling Communist Party's human rights track record.
