The search for Chicago’s next top cop is nearing its final steps. Chicago’s Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability will host its final community forum on the search for the city’s next Police Superintendent on Monday at 6 P.M at the Beverly Arts Center on the City’s South Side.

That event will gather public comment on the search, the city has received applications from 54 candidates.

The search comes following the March Retirement of Superintendent David Brown, 62, who retired just months before reaching the age of 63, the mandatory retirement age for Chicago police officers.

He was nominated to the role in 2020 by now outgoing Mayor Lori Lightfoot and two worked closely together. They embraced a strategy of flooding Chicago’s most violent areas with additional officers, violence interrupters and other city resources.
